PENSACOLA, Fla. -- Crews on Wednesday continue to make repairs at the large sinkhole that formed on a Pensacola road earlier this week.
The sinkhole opened at Garden St. and Barrancas Ave. on Monday. Channel 3 captured an ECUA truck stuck in the sinkhole.
FDOT tells Channel 3 Wednesday morning that "crews anticipate the repairs to complete later this week, weather permitting."
In a statement, FDOT says: "FDOT crews are currently excavating the broken segments of the roadway from the void in the road. The initial assessment is that a leak in the storm inlet drain over a period of years slowly eroded the soil from underneath the roadway."
Pensacola Police on Monday closed Garden St. at Barrancas Ave. due to the large sinkhole. Police advised to take Garden St. to Pace as an alternative route.
Storms will move into the Gulf Coast region with NWFL and SWAL being struck Wednesday night and overnight. Some storms may be strong or severe.
